Hikes
• Social hikes are held every Tuesday morning from 08h00 in the summer and from 08h30 in the winter and depart from Fish Eagle Dam picnic area. Hikers end the first Tuesday of every month with a picnic.
• The Society maintains six hiking trails in the Reserve. The trails are accompanied by points of interest to provide the hiker with interesting facts on the history, geology or fauna and flora along the trail.
• Bird walks are held on the second last Friday morning of every month. The starting time changes depending on the season.
• Heritage walks are a walking tour for interest groups around some of the interesting aspects of the old Modderfontein village. They take the form of an Urban Ramble and last about one-and-a-half to two hours and must be booked in advance. Groups should not exceed 20 people. The walks are scheduled in May (around Museum Day) and September (around Heritage Day) or at any other time by special group request.
• Special visits are arranged to the cemeteries within the Modderfontein Industrial Complex.
Please dress sensibly for these walks, in greens and khakis, with good shoes and a hat. Sunscreen and water are also a good idea. For your own safety please note that all walkers in the Reserve should have their ID number, medical aid, medical aid number and next of kin contact information available on their person in case of any incident.
Talks
• Talks are held once a month and cover a large range of conservation, environment, and heritage related topics.
• The day and time of the talks is currently under review and the 2023 programme will be posted once it has been finalised.

Friday 11th 16h00 – End of Year Walk & Braai at the Education Centre Lapa in the Modderfontein Reserve. The walk will start at 16h00 and the braai is lit at about 18h00. Come when you can and bring your own food, drinks, cutlery, crockery and something to sit on.
